Since inception in 1938 as "S. Muthusamy Chettiar and Sons" by Shri. S. Muthusamy Chettiar set a new identity in jewellery with impeccable purity and exquisite craftsmanship .

In 1993, Shri. SMP. Shanmugam started "SMP Jewellery, Madurai" in Madurai hoping to find loyal patrons. What began as a small store was soon a flourishing business and "SMP" became a household name in Madurai.
